NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Joseph William Roberts, 79, formerly of 798 Mohawk Trail, died Dec. 29, 2002, at North Adams Commons.
Born in North Adams on March 9, 1923, son of Joseph T. and Mary Ann O'Neil Roberts, he graduated from the former St. Joseph's High School.
Mr. Roberts was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for 50 years, retiring as a foreman.
He was a longtime communicant of St. Francis' Church and enjoyed fishing.
His wife, the former Hazel B. Tischendorf, whom he married Nov. 7, 1952, died Nov. 17, 1999.
He leaves three daughters, Ann Dellert and Judy Clarno, both of Adams, and Lyn Sweet of Ulster Park, N.Y.; a son, James DeMayo of West Stockbridge; four sisters, Helen Richard, Mildred Manson and Marcel Remillard of North Adams, and Mary Eleen Meehan of Arizona; a brother, William G. Roberts of North Adams; seven grandchildren, Joseph DeMayo, Karen Richert, Kathy Kothlow, Andrea DeMayo, Kara Ottone, Bobby Sweet and Gina Sweet; 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A brother, Ernest J. Roberts, predeceased him.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Roberts will be Thursday morning at 10 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will follow in the family plot in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested for St. Francis' Church Building Fund through the funeral home.
