NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —  Longtime educator, Donna Lee (Sweeney) Meranti, 85 of North Adams died on Saturday September 20, 2025 at North Adams Commons. She was born in Pittsfield, MA on April 13, 1940 a daughter of the late Earl Joseph Sweeney and Rita Marion (Plankey) Sweeney.

Donna attended schools in North Adams and graduated from Drury High School. She graduated from North Adams State Teacher College and started her teaching career at McCann Technical High School. Donna was a devoted homemaker, being a mother was her top priority and she left teaching to raise her family. Once her children were grown, she returned to teaching briefly at Conte Middle School and then at Drury high school until her retirement in 2004. Donna was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, a cub scout den mother, and involved with the Parent Teacher Association at Johnson School, taking extreme pride in coordinating the many talents shows. She remained a very active mother in all her children and grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. Donna enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, going to the casino and camping. The thing that she enjoyed the most was spending time with her family at Lake Bomoseen.

Donna was predeceased by her husband, Officer Theodore “Teddy” Meranti, former North Adams Police Officer. They married on June 29, 1963 and he died on March 6, 1997. Donna leaves her children, Leisa Meranti Superneau of North Adams, and sons, Stephen Meranti (Tammy) of Clarksburg and William Meranti (Denise) of North Adams. She also leaves her grandchildren, Kimberly A. Meranti of North Adams, Theodore W. Meranti of Burlington, VT, Mitchell S. Meranti of Clarksburg, Matthew R. Meranti (Beth) of North Adams, Nicole S. Superneau (Josh) of Pittsfield, William T. Superneau of North Adams, Megan L. Superneau of North Adams and great grandchildren, Lillian R. Meranti, Evelyn H. Meranti, Adalyn L Meranti and Charlotte Superneau. She also leaves sisters-in-law, Linda Sweeney and Alice Mirante. She was predeceased by her brother Charles Anthony Sweeney.
