NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —
Mrs. Mary Anne B. (Gamache) Carter, 94, of North Adams, died Monday evening, September 8, 2025 at Williamstown Commons. She was born in Albany, NY on April 21, 1931, the daughter of the late Ernest A. and Mary A. (Modena) Gamache. Her mother died at a young age, and Mary Anne took on the responsibility of helping raise her younger brother, Ernest G. Gamache. She attended North Adams schools, graduating from Drury High School.
Mary Anne worked as a clerk in the Cemetery Department office for the City of North Adams until she retired. Earlier, she had worked in the office at James Hunter Machine Co. in North Adams. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, North Adams, and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics.
Her husband, Leslie J. Carter, whom she married on October 11, 1975, died on December 30, 2011. She is survived by her sister-in-law Holly M. Gamache of Adams; nephews Kevin Gamache (Shannon) of North Adams, Bart Gamache (Jeanette) of Windsor, and Ernest Gamace, Jr (Kathleen) of Pownal, VT; her niece Annette Czarnecki of Williamstown; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and great grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Ernest G. Gamache on February 4, 2021.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Sept. 17th at 11:00 AM in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. A calling hour in the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams will be held on Wednesday morning from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM.
