Leo Andreatta, 100

April 12, 2025

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —  Leo Peter Andreatta, 100, of North Adams, MA died on April 12, 2025 in Bennington, Vermont at the Vermont Veterans’ Home. He was born on January 26, 1925, a son of Robert and Pia (Cellana) Andreatta. He attended local schools.

At the young age of 18, Leo answered the call to serve his country in World War II. He served in the Philippines, Australia & New Guinea for over two years. After returning from WWII, he married Florence (Flo) Ghidotti on October 8, 1949, and settled in North Adams to begin their family life together.

Leo worked for GE in Pittsfield for over 35 years. He enjoyed family activities, gardening, playing cards, and an occasional trip to Saratoga in the summer. Leo was affectionately known as “Leftie”, throwing left-handed when playing baseball with his kids and grandkids. He led a simple, happy life with Flo and their children, and loved being at home. Leo was able to enjoy retirement after leaving GE, and remained active until recent years; remarkably, he lived to see 4 great- grandchildren born. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and was their biggest fan. He was a life-long fan of the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots.

Leo was known for his integrity, his love for his family, and his devout, unwavering faith in God. He was a faithful communicant of St Elizabeth of Hungary Parish for his entire life.

Survivors include his loving wife of 75 years, Florence Andreatta; his children, Donald Andreatta & his wife, Dawn of Burlington MA; David Andreatta & his wife Lauren of North Adams, MA; and Ann Boulger & her husband Bob of Clarksburg, MA. He also leaves six grandchildren: Andrew Andreatta (Ashley), Evan Andreatta (Tatiana), Matthew Boulger (Meaghan), Alex Boulger (Katie), Nicholas Boulger (Liz), Emily Andreatta (Warren), and four great-grandchildren- Olivia, Nolan, Jack and Ben as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers Bruno and Robert. The family wishes to thank the staff from Brandon Boulevard at the Vermont Veterans’ Home for their kind and compassionate care they provided for Leo.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Leo Andreatta will be celebrated Wednesday April 16, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview cemetery. A calling hour will be held AT THE CHURCH on Wednesday morning from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Vincent de Paul or a charity of one’s choice in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERAL CENTRAL CHAPEL, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA 01247. Leo was a friend of my Dad, Red Sniezek from working at the GE together. I remember my Mom and Dad piling us 6 kids in the station wagon to take us up the steep hills of North Adams to visit your family. I always wondered if the car would make it up the hill or we would have to get out and push it. Sharing a fond memory, and wishing your family love and peace. May God bless all of you.

My condolences to Flo and the Andreatta family. Leo was a great friend to my Dad, Louie Ziter. They enjoyed trips to OBT in New Lebanon, and Leo's nightly calls to my Dad in his later years always brightened his day. Such a great guy.
