NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Karin Charlotte (Gaule) Sherman, 85 of North Adams, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday March 6, 2025 at Berkshire Medical Center.
She was born in Germany on November 9, 1939, a daughter of Ernst Gaule and Lotte (Luddecke) Gaule. She came to the United States at age 13 and graduated from Drury High School.
Karin was last employed by England Brothers Department Store in North Adams where she worked for many years until her retirement. Before her marriage, she had worked at the Royal Typewriter Co. in Connecticut.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of North Adams. Karin was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She was the widow of Earl Francis Sherman who died on May 9, 1997. They were married in 1957.
Karin loved to travel up and down the East Coast. She also loved to spend time with her family and friends. She was excellent at sewing, knitting and crocheting items for her loved ones. Oma (Grandma in German) loved picnics and family gatherings, where she always brought her German potato salad, bratwurst and other German traditions.
Survivors include her sister, Kaithe Denton (Robert) of Manchester, CT one daughter, Brenda Cariddi (Lawrence) of North Adams, MA and two sons, Kennard Sherman (Janet) of North Adams, MA and Ronald Sherman of North Adams, MA. She also leaves her grandchildren Susan LeClair, Larry Cariddi Jr, Becky McLain, Deb Stokes, Steve and Danny McLain, Tim Sherman, Chris Sherman, Samantha Sherman and Jason Lesure and fifteen great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her daughter, Monica Robin McLain died on October 2, 2023, her half sister, Rita Bohmer died in Germany, daughter in law Susan Sherman died on March 8th 2018, grandson David Lesure died on April 3, 2016, great grandson Keegan Perry on Sept 30, 2020.
FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Karin Sherman will be Tuesday March 11, 2025 at 11:00 AM at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA. Burial will be in the spring in Clarksburg Cemetery. A calling hour will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
