NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Doris F. Tanguay, 97, of North Adams passed away on Wednesday February 19, 2025 after a brief period of failing health. Mrs. Tanguay was predeceased by her loving husband of 72 ½ years Arthur J. Tanguay, whom she married on October 21, 1950 and who passed away on April 21, 2022.
Mrs. Tanguay was born at 273 Beaver Street, North Adams on November 20, 1927, the daughter of John J. & Agnes M. (Roy) Fic. She attended St. Joseph School, North Adams, and graduated in the class of 1945.
During High School she worked briefly at Sprague Electric. Upon graduating from High School, she went to work for New England Telephone. After leaving New England Telephone, she stayed home for several years to raise her growing family. She returned to work in retail in 1965 at Giants, Zayre, and Ames Department Stores, retiring in 1990.
Mrs. Tanguay was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. She always enjoyed a good time, especially spending time with her family, playing cards, scrabble, games on her iPad, and watching her Boston Celtics. Doris and Art loved to dance and when there was music, they were always spotted on the dance floor. People loved watching them “cut a rug”.
She is survived by her loving children Marcia (Thomas) Partenope of North Adams, Lynn (Bruce) Hayden of North Adams, Brian Tanguay (partner Bev) of North Adams, Sally (Steven) Lamb of East Bridgewater, and Lisa Roberts of Pittsfield. Doris also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Colleen, Kelly, Shaun, Amanda, Bryan, Shannon, Caren, Lauren, and Steven, seventeen great-grandchildren, and one great great-granddaughter. She also leaves her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Valmore Girard and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Jennifer B. (Partenope) Rice.
A PRIVATE Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in North Adams.
