NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Mr. William A. Sherman, 81, of North Adams, formerly of Clarksburg, died Monday evening, February 10, 2025, at North Adams Commons. He was born in Clarksburg on August 11, 1943, a son of the late Earl D. and Mildred (Shortman) Sherman, and attended schools in Clarksburg and North Adams, graduating from Drury High School with the Class of 1961.
As a youth, Bill worked at Tanner’s Farm in Clarksburg and as a caddy at the former North Adams Country Club. He then worked briefly for Turgeon Bros. Contractors until going to work as a truck driver for the former Transit-Mix Concrete Co. and then at Berkshire Concrete Corp. in Pittsfield, until an injury forced his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Louise M. Houghtaling, whom he married on September 10, 1969; two sons, Michael P. Sherman and his wife Laura of North Adams, and Daniel E. Sherman of Pownal, VT; a daughter, Elizabeth M. Elder and her husband Jacob of Clarksburg; his five grandchildren, Ryan Sherman, Jack Sherman, Lucas Elder, Kie Sherman and Emma Sherman, as well as several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his three brothers, Forrest, Earl and Robert Sherman.
A graveside service will be held on a date to be announced in the Spring in Clarksburg Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
