Alan James Gay

Alan James Gay, 49, of 74 Porter St. died Monday at North Adams Regional Hospital after being stricken earlier at home.
Born in North Adams on June 16, 1952, son of Lois Gay Roy of North Adams, he attended local schools, including Charles H. McCann Vocational Technical High School.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1971 and served on the USS Mount Vernon. He received the National Defense Service Medal and completed the basic firefighting school, defensive driving course and the advanced firefighting school.
After his military service ended in 1973, he moved to Rhode Island and was employed as a real estate agent with the Sea & Ski Realtors. He returned to North Adams in the early 1990s.
Mr. Gay attended St. Francis of Assisi Church. An avid fisherman, he also enjoyed camping.
Besides his mother, he leaves a son, Joshua Gay, with whom he made his home; three brothers, Lee E. Roy of Adams, Kyle A. Roy of Clarksburg and Loren D. Roy of North Adams, and a sister, Karen A. James of Pittsfield.
Graveside services will take place Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the Joshua Gay Education Fund through the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements.
