Audrey McDonald, 28

July 18, 2024

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —  Audrey Lynn McDonald, 28, of North Adams died on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at her home. She was born in North Adams on June 13, 1996 a daughter to Jennifer Marie McDonald and Corey Lee Shays.

Audrey had a tireless work ethic and talent in so many fields. She graduated from Charles H. McCann Technical High School, receiving a diploma in welding. Attended Westfield State University and MCLA, earning a BA in philosophy- total law, ethics, and society, as well as a B.S. in business management. Audrey put her skills and heart into her work while employed at BART Charter School as a health and wellness/ fitness teacher. Audrey took so much pride in the students at BART, and in return the students, faculty and staff gave her the strength of her new career.

Survivors include her parents, Jennifer Marie McDonald of Adams, MA, her father, Corey Lee Shays and step mother Mai-ly Shays of Shaftsbury, VT, a sister, Ava Dixon of Adams, MA, brother, Tristen Shays of Shaftsbury, VT and her fiancé Corey M. Girard of North Adams, MA. Also survived by her beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends.

Audrey had a deep love for animals of all kind, adopting so many as well. As a young girl she loved horses with years of lessons riding. From capturing sunsets and sunrises with her loved Corey, whom she referred to as “her person” that brought her happiness, and their many adventures traveling and nature walks. Audrey had such a vibrant, bright energy that showed through her smile and those beautiful blue eyes. There wasn't a person in need she wouldn't shed love and compassion to. Among her favorites was her little sister Ava who she admired and loved unconditionally. Audrey would sit at ease listening to Ava play the guitar for her. An unselfish, fiercely loving, woman is how she will always be remembered.

Ms.Mcdonald was a wonderful and bright soul. I met her in 9th grade and she's helped me so much and I've done the same to repay her for her kindness. It breaks my heart to know she won't see me graduate from school and make her proud like she said I would. BART will never be the same without seeing her & asking how my day is going. She had stresses in our school but she handled them with grace. I even gave her my donut stress toy to help her. My deepest condolences for her Fiance, family, and friends. I will miss you & never forget you. Fly High angel, we'll miss you?

Audrey would light up every room she ever walked into. She was the epitome of beautiful, inside and out. She was the brightest light for my nephew Corey. They were meant for each other, in every single way.
I'm so extremely sorry for her family and her friends. This is a huge loss in the world. Nothing will be the same without Audrey's electric personality.
Rest in paradise Audrey. Your memory will always live on.
