NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Joy D. Bishop, 94, formerly of North Adams, passed away peacefully of natural causes at Westview Nursing Center in Bedford, Ind., on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022. Joy was comforted by her family.
Joy was born in New Rochelle, N.Y., on March 3, 1928, daughter of Fitzwilliam and Beatrice Dassler Dalrymple. She graduated from Albert Leonard High School in New Rochelle in 1946 and from what was then North Adams State College in 1988.
She raised her family in North Adams, and was well-known in the community, where she was involved in many activities and causes. Joy was a 60-year Third Order of the Carmelites member.
Her husband, Max A. Bishop, died on June 25, 1971.
She leaves 12 children, Betsy Bishop of North Adams; Ed Bishop of Hancock; James H. Bishop of Hyde Park, N.Y.; Joy Cardinal of Avoca, Ind.; Annie Petty, Tom Bishop, Mrs. Stephanie Jones, Max A Bishop and Joseph M. Bishop, all of Bedford; Mary T. Bishop of Bowling Green, Ind.; John P. Bishop of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Helen M. Bishop of Hainesville, Ill., their spouses, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Three sisters predeceased her.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Celebration of Life will be held at 1075 Main St., Williamstown, on Wednesday, Dec. 14, from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Action.
