NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Mr. Karl E. LaPine, 89, of North Adams passed away Friday, February 25, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Karl was born in North Adams on January 1, 1933, the youngest son of John LaPine and Thelma Vanderhule Meiklejohn, and stepfathers Hector (Hap) Bissaillon and Thomas Meiklejohn. Karl was a Corporal during the Korean War for the United States Army, serving as a chef at Ft. Devens, receiving the National defense service medal and good conduct medal when he was honorably discharged in 1955. He was employed for several years at Florini's Restaurant in North Adams and then Price Chopper Supermarket, retiring from the produce department after 35 years.
One of his favorite past times was dancing with his beloved wife, Theresa Helen Chenail LaPine, who predeceased him in 2017. Karl and Theresa were married in North Adams on August 15, 1953 and celebrated 63 wonderful years together. He had a great love for gardening, cooking and baking and loved sitting on his deck in the summer visiting with family and friends and watching the birds. He was an active member of Notre Dame church, Holy Family church and Saint Elizabeth’s of Hungary Parish for many years. Karl's greatest passion was his family and making memories with them; he particularly loved annual vacations at Hampton Beach. A devoted family man and steadfast friend, always offering a home cooked meal and often catering or making wedding cakes for gatherings with family or friends.
Karl is survived by his three sons, Bill LaPine (Cheryl) of Virgina Beach, VA, Karl LaPine of Adams, MA, and Mark LaPine (Deb) of Clarksburg, MA, and his daughter Terry Tatro (Ernie) of North Adams, MA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Billy, Angie, Jen, Josh, Scott, Michelle, Carla, Chris, Gina, Sammy, Austin, and Jordan as well as many great-grandchildren.
Karl also leaves his sister Lois (Sue) Hescock, his beloved pets Bugsy and Petu and many extended family members and great friends. He was predeceased by his brothers John, Robert, Donald, and his sister Marion Green.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 70 Marshall St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, Church St., North Adams.
