Louis E. Zocchi, 101

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Louis Edward Zocchi, 101, of North Adams died Tuesday October 18, 2016, at North Adams Commons.
He was born in North Adams on April 18, 1915 son of Angelo and Ernestine (Montagna) Zocchi. He attended the Johnson School and Drury High School. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the US Army Air Corps. Louis was a police officer for the city of North Adams for many years. He also worked part-time at Green Mountain Race Track.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church, where he served in its choir and volunteered in the kitchen for its annual bazaar. Louis enjoyed bowling and playing handball.
His wife was Erminia "Amy" (Benedetti) Zocchi died on November 1, 2004. They were married on June 28, 1947.
Survivors include two daughters, Louise A. Zocchi and her husband Richard Shaker of North Adams and Mary E. Zocchi and her husband William Haney of Brookline, Mass.; one son, William Zocchi and his wife Beth of Pittsfield; five grandchildren, Anthony Zocchi, Nicholas Martin, William Haney, Matthew Haney and Elisabeth Haney; two great-grandchildren, Landon and Colby; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one brother and one sister, Josephine Zocchi and Hugo Zocchi.
Funeral notice: A Graveside Service for Louis Zocchi will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at 11 a.m. in Southview cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations May be made to St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church or the North Adams Police Association in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapel, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
growing up until I visited him in the nursing home Lou always had a smile and a story. singing in the choir with Lou or just talking with him ,he showed respect and love for everyone.

Louie was my uncle and important adult figure all through my youth at 54 Bradford St in North Adams. May he rest in peace. Our condolences to Billy, Mary and Louise.
