Ruth Emma Poirot, 86

FLORIDA, Mass. — Ruth Emma Poirot, 86, of 2 Poirot Road died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at her home.

Born in Clarksburg on July 25, 1928, daughter of Franklin and Irene Racine Sumner, she attended schools in Clarksburg and North Adams.

Mrs. Poirot was employed for many years by the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams until her retirement. She first worked at the former Wall-Streeter Shoe Co. and later at the Dunkin' Donuts, both in North Adams.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, watching birds and cooking for her family. She was a foster parent.

Her husband, Louis Henry Poirot, whom she married Aug. 17, 1946, in Florida, died on June 28, 1988.

She leaves three daughters, Diane Smith of Florida, Debra Welch and her husband, Robert, of Dalton, and Bridget Poirot of Cheshire; three sons, William Poirot and his wife, Donna, and Louis H. Poirot Jr. and his wife, Ruth, all of Florida, and Robert Poirot of North Adams; her brother, Robert Sumner of North Adams; 14 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her son-in-law Louis Smith, her sister, Lena Foisey, and brothers Richard, Millard, Franklin, Milton and Kenneth Sumner.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A graveside service for Mrs. Poirot will be held in the spring in the Florida Church Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare of the Berkshires in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
