Edward C. Sinderman, 96

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Edward Carl Sinderman, 96, of Chantilly Avenue died on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

Born in North Adams on Oct. 23, 1918, the son of Edward F. and Anna Rothschink Sinderman, he graduated from Drury High school and attended the former Bliss Business College and North Adams State College.

An Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, he was a tail gunner on a B-29 with the 382nd Bomb Group. He was inducted in November 1943 and honorably released in March 1946, attaining the rank of sergeant.

Mr. Sinderman was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in North Adams for more than 35 years, 15 of those as a window clerk. He retired in March 1984. Prior to that, he had worked part time for the North Adams Police Department and 2 1/2 years with the North Adams Fire Department.

He became an avid golfer in retirement and was a member of the North Adams Country Club and the Northern Berkshire YMCA. He enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. He was also a life member of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion and belonged to retired men's associations.

His wife, the former Ellen Mary Graves, whom he married on Aug. 1, 1942, in the former St. Francis of Assissi Church, died March 27, 2005.

He leaves his daughter, Dayle E. Sinderman and her companion, Edward Czarnecki, of Williamstown; two nephews, William Filiault and his wife, Gwen, of Mooresville, N.C., and Richard Filiault of North Adams, and a niece, Joan Blair and her husband, Edward, of North Adams.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Sinderman will be held on Friday Feb. 13, at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Southview Cemetery.

A calling time will be held Friday from 8:30 to 9:45 prior to the service at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Donations are suggested for North Adams Public Library through the funeral.

I knew your Dad as a patron of the library, where he was a frequent visitor. He was one of the sweetest, most considerate men I've ever met. He always had a smile for us and something cheerful to say. We were always delighted to see him come in the door. No doubt he is with the angels.
