Roger Lavigne, 84

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Roger Lavigne, 84, of 59 Gallup St. joined died Thursday, April 24, 2014, at North Adams Commons, where he had been a resident since December.

Born in North Adams on Oct. 24, 1929, son of Arthur and Dora Brosseau Lavigne, he attended local schools.

Mr. Lavigne was employed by the city of North Adams in the Cemetery Department for more than 30 years, until his retirement. In his younger years, he worked in various cotton mills.

He was a dedicated husband and true friend and was a hard-working, earnest employee for the city. He believed in honesty and loyalty and tried to show it each day of his life, said family.

He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. HE will be remembered by his family, friends, and community for his pride in maintaining his home. He was known to strike up a conversation with everyone and anyone and loved his daily breakfast trip to Linda's Cafe. Mr. Lavigne looked forward every year to spending time with his wife at their camp in Canada. He also enjoyed traveling to Maine and Lake George with his godchid, Michelle, and Emma and his special Sundays with his cousin, Bernie. He loved listening to the Red Sox on his 1967 kitchen radio and cheering on the Drury High School band.

His wife, the former Adele Grenier, died on March 26, 2003.

He leaves nieces and nephews; and his good friends, Bert and Therese Lavoie, Michelle Waryjasz and Emma Waryjasz.

His brother, Donald Lavigne, and his sister, Dorothy Cote, are deceased.

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Lavigne will be Friday, May 2, at 11 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St. North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.

A calling hour will be held on Friday morning from 10 to 11. Memorial contributions may be made to the Drury High School gand in care of the funeral home.

He joined his "sweetheart" in heaven.
