Gerald John Appleby, 40, of 225 East Main St. died yesterday at North Adams Regional Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Manchester, Conn., on Aug. 4, 1961, son of Gloria Bieu Appleby-Johnston and the late Gerald H. Appleby, he attended schools there and graduated from Manchester High School in 1980.
Mr. Appleby was employed as a roofer for several companies in Connecticut for several years. He moved to Berkshire County several years ago, settling in North Adams. He was employed by Burger King in Lenox for a short time until ill health forced him to retire.
He enjoyed playing chess and his guitar, the outdoors, and music.
Besides his mother of North Adams, he leaves a son, Thomas Jarvis of Middletown, Conn., and a brother, David Appleby of North Adams.
Graveside services for will take place Friday morning at 10 at the family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. There will be no calling hours. FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, is in charge of arrangements.
