 NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — This fall, the North Adams Public Schools (NAPS) District Arts Integration Specialist, Leslie Appleget, won the 2023 Outstanding Community Arts Education Collaborative Multidisciplinary Award from stateside arts collaborative Arts|Learning. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — ROOTS Teen Center has hired Amelia Wood as the new Executive Director. In this new position, Wood aims to meet the interests and needs of teens by creating partnerships with Northern Berkshire school systems and local organizations, artists, and collaborators. Wood, a North Adams native, graduated from Drury High School and Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, where she studied Fine & Performing Arts and Sociology. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The School Committee on Tuesday reorganized for the new term, heard updates on a number of issues and approved a gun safety resolution promoted by the Be SMART campaign. Mayor Jennifer Macksey is the chair of the committee because of her office but the vice chair is elected by the committee members. CLARKSBURG, Mass. — John Franzoni will stay superintendent of the Northern Berkshire School Union for the next three years. The union's School Committee agreed on Monday to a contract that will see the Franzoni through June 30, 2027, when he plans to retire. He was hired by the school union in 2018 to replace the retiring Jon Lev. Franzoni was principal of Brayton Elementary School in North Adams, and had been an administrator at both Greylock and the former Sullivan schools and athletic director at Drury High School.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The "fun part" of designing a new school is about to start at the first of the year for the Greylock School project. The Massachusetts School Building Authority's board unanimously approved the school district's preliminary plans on Dec. 13 and has invited it into the next module: preferred schematic design.
