Local Art Professor Recognized for Her Sustainable Work

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — An art professor at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts recently earned a reward for her work in book binding.

Melanie Mowinski applied for the Guild of Bookworkers Mid-Career Award, a newly established award by the guild.

The printmaker showcased her "Plunder Books," a sustainable artistic practice in which she takes trash and discarded items and recycles them into a story. She's also offered a course of the same name.

She didn't believe she would get the award at first and had not planned to apply. But a friend of hers encouraged her to submit her work.

MCLA Gallery 51 to Present 'Ecologies of the In\between'

North Adams City Hall Hosts 'Daydream' Sculpture

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Peter May had envisioned placing an artwork of his own creation in the Eagle Street pocket park where his building had once stood.    Instead, "Daydream" has a more prominent place of honor on the front lawn at City Hall.    "It's amazing, an incredible honor to have my piece as a permanent installation here at the corner at City Hall," May said Friday morning as his aluminum sculpture was officially recognized with a ribbon cutting.    May had first approached the Public Arts Commission with his concept in 2023, receiving enthusiastic approval to place it in the Eagle Street park or elsewhere on public

HooWRA Workshop Focuses on Poetry
