As a parent, you naturally want to help your children — but is it always a good idea to provide them with support when they're adults? Cross Scores 25 in Team's Giorgi League Win

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Keiland Cross had a double-double Monday to lead Giardina and Bressett PC to a 93-83 win over OPI in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League A Division.   Cross scored 25 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in the win.   Teammate Lucas Shatford matched Cross with 25 points. Hayden Bird and Brandon Davis added 12 and 11, respectively.   Isaiah Powell led OPI with a game-high 45 points and 12 rebounds. BOSTON — A North Berkshire woman was among the 130 honored June 23 as a Commonwealth Heroine.   Erin Forbush, director of shelter and housing at ServiceNet, was nominated by state Rep. Tricia Farley-Bouvier.   Each year, the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women partners with state legislators to identify women who make outstanding contributions to their organizations and in their communities. Striking Out Cancer Event Moved to July 1

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- After Saturday's rain forced a postponement, the Striking Out in the Berkshires Jimmy Fund fund-raiser will try again on Saturday, July 1 at Clapp Park.   Players of any ability are welcome to participate in a charity baseball and softball games.   So are players with no ability at all.   "I've had some people call and text me and ask, 'Do you have to be a baseball player?' BRISTOL, Conn. -- Brent Hodgdon struck out five in the ninth and 10th innings to lead the North Adams SteepleCats to a 2-1 win over Bristol on Saturday night.   Hodgdon struck out the side in the 10th to leave the "ghost runner" stranded and secure the SteepleCats' second straight victory.   D.M. Legislative Measure Would Increase PILOT Payments to Towns, Cities

BOSTON — A bill that would see communities fully reimbursed for state-owned land in their borders has been filed in the Legislature.    The measure by State Auditor Diana DiZoglio to change the calculations of the state in making payments in lieu of taxes is sponsored by state Sen. Paul Mark and state Rep. Shirley Arriaga. It has been referred to the Joint Committee on Revenue that held a hearing Thursday.    PILOT programs help municipal governments replace some or all revenue lost from certain state property tax exemptions, including those associated with nonprofit organizations, recreational areas, and certain properties owned by the Commonwealth.   The

  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- For the first time since opening night, the North Adams SteepleCats Friday ended a baseball game on the right side of the scoreboard.   Julien Hernandez struck out nine hitters in five innings, and four North Adams pitchers combined to scatter eight hits in a 5-3 win over the division-leading Valley Blue Sox in New England Collegiate Baseball League action at Joe Wolfe Field.   Nathan Lincoln went 3-for-3 and Kyle Hannon doubled twice for the SteepleCats (2-12), who snapped a 12-game losing streak.   Even though it had not won since June 7 -- at home, against the Blue Sox -- North Adams has been in games more often than not. North Adams Hangar Renovation Likely to Begin This Month

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Stantec engineer Peter Enzien told the Airport Commission that building materials needed for the Northeast hangar renovation should be delivered this week.   Enzien said Tuesday that work can begin once the contractor has everything.   "They are still waiting on materials to arrive on site before they can remobilize," he said.    The city purchased the dilapidated hangar with hopes of restoring it, but the pandemic has delayed the project with material shortages and rising costs.   This anticipated start date is now June 26.   Enzien said structural work should take about six weeks.
