Berkshire Food Project Welcomes New Leadership on Board

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — James Mahon has seen the Berkshire Food Project face a number of challenges over 20 years as the president of its board of directors.   One recent hurdle, of course, was unique.   "This is a place that has been meaningful to me, and I do feel like I've got more out of it than I've put in," Mahon said Wednesday as the lunch rush wound down in the project's dining room at First Congregational Church. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Matthew Bergevin hit a one-out sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to give the Valley Blue Sox a 3-2 win over the SteepleCats at Joe Wolfe Field.   Aiden Stewart went 2-for-3 with an RBI  for North Adams, which got a hit and an RBI from Cedric Rose.   Jagger Jefferis threw three innings of scoreless relief for the Cats, allowing two hits and and no walks while striking out three.   North Adams (8-20) goes to Mystic, Conn., on Thursday.

North Adams Fire Chief Returns To Duty

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The North Adams Police Department concluded the investigation of a pedestrian accident involving Fire Chief Brent Lefebvre and has deemed the incident was accidental with no criminal element.   “It was determined that this was an unfortunate accident with no criminal elements,” Mayor Jennifer Macksey wrote in a statement released Wednesday. “Chief Lefebvre was issued Massachusetts Uniform Citation for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.  As a result of these findings, Chief Lefebvre has returned to full duty effective immediately.  We hope for a speedy recovery for the victim.”   The statement regarding the

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Michelle Groves has lived her whole life in her family's home on Church Street.   And she never has seen anything like she saw on Monday.   "I grew up here and never had anything flood, but then there was the sink hole on the top of the Hoosac Tunnel [in 2020], so they needed to figure out how to fix that. North Adams Mayor 'Terrified' of Potential for More Storm Damage

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Residents who have been hit with storm damage twice in the last five weeks told the City Council Tuesday that drainage problems in their neighborhood need a long-term solution.   "Five weeks ago, I was left with a 2 foot ditch against my foundation," Frederick Street resident Leigh Uqdah told the council. "DPW helped me, fortunately. But this last storm washed it away.   "If another storm comes and it's not fixed, it could potentially cause my house to tip over. La Festa Baseball Exchange Returns July 22

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The La Festa Baseball Exchange returns to Joe Wolfe Field on Saturday and Sunday, July 22 and 23.   The 32nd edition of the exchange again will give youth baseball players from North County a chance to compete against their peers from Boston's North End.   The North End Dodgers will welcome the Berkshire County players and their families for games in August.   Since its inception, the La Festa Exchange has featured 124 games on both ends of the commonwealth involving more than 1,000 youngsters.   This year's event will kick off with opening ceremonies at 5:30 on July 22. Sunday's game is scheduled for 10 a.m.

Drury Tops McCann Tech in John Giorgi League

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Sammy Moorman had a double-double Tuesday to lead the Drury High basketball team to a 76-29 win over McCann Tech in the B Division of the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League.   Moorman scored 20 points and pulled down 17 rebounds in the win.   Jorge Bond hit seven 3-pointers on the way to a 25-point night.
