North Adams Man Pleads Guilty to Drug Charges | 02:00PM / Friday, November 24, 2023 | |
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Nov. 15 Marcus Johnson, age 23 of North Adams, pled guilty to Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Substance, heroin and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class B Substance, cocaine. The Honorable Judge Agostini sentenced Johnson to 3.5 to 4 years on each charge, to be served concurrent. Additionally, there was a forfeiture of $3,530.00. Johnson pled guilty the day his trial was set to begin. In 2019, the North Adams Police Department was investigating the supplying and dealing of drugs coming into the North Adams area.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Morgan Windram-Geddes said she was going to spend much of the holiday making food to bring to her brother’s house to celebrate Thanksgiving with family. Her extended family got to eat with the fastest woman at the eighth annual Thankful 5K. Windram-Geddes of Glendale, Mass., was the 10th racer overall to cross the finish line at Berkshire Community College among the hundreds of runners and walkers to set off on West Street at 9 a.m. Thursday morning. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Zebra mussel eDNA has been detected at Onota Lake by the Commonwealth's Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). This discovery was made as part of regular monitoring of the lake for these types of invasive species. This detection only impacts boating operations at the lake and has no impact to other recreational uses of the lake. Zebra mussels are invasive freshwater mollusks that present a variety of ecological, recreational, and economic concerns. A winter weather advisory has been issued through 10 a.m. on Wednesday by the National Weather Service in Albany, N.Y., for North Berkshire and the Vermont counties of Bennington and Windham. Snow will move in later Tuesday evening and mix with sleet and freezing rain prior to midnight. The free lunch program has for three decades made a point of ensuring anyone can get a turkey dinner with all trimmings — albeit a few days before the holiday. "Steve" Green at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, in MCLA's Amsler Campus Center Gymnasium and via Zoom. Green, a community leader, passed away in September. Green accomplished a 36-year career at the former North Adams State College (now MCLA). Steve served as a sociology professor, department chair, and vice president of academic affairs. An individual wearing all black, a winter hat and facemask took off with a small safe containing money from the main office. The entrance set off an alarm and troopers arrived shortly after midnight on Friday morning. They found an unlocked window with the screen pushed up; no one was in the building when they entered.
