School Subcommittee Recommends Closure of Greylock School

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The schools' Facilities and Finance subcommittee is recommending that Greylock School close at the end of this school year.   School officials say a number of factors are being considered in accelerating the closing — declining enrollment, the building's physical condition and, not least of all, a looming $2.4 million budget deficit.    The city is currently pursuing a school building project to replace Greylock with a new $61 million structure at same location to open in fall 2027. Deep Associates Joining Wheeler & Taylor

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Longtime North County insurers Deep Associates Insurance Agency have sold to Wheeler & Taylor but manager Carrie Ann Kondel said clients should expect little to change.   "Customers should expect business as usual," she said. "Just more access. We're going to have even more market access and support for them."   The late Michael Deep opened Deep Associates in the early 1980s. Clarksburg Finance Committee OK Accountant Funding

MCLA, Habitat for Humanity Partner Offer Free Tax Assistance

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) and its Department of Business Administration are partnering with Habitat for Humanity to offer free tax preparation services to residents in need through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.    MCLA will offer in-person, drop-off, and virtual tax assistance to qualified taxpayers beginning Feb.12.   Habitat for Humanity administers VITA, a program of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), to assist taxpayers with disabilities, limited English-speaking skills, those 50 years of age or older, or individuals and families who earn $64,000 or less a year.?MCLA students will be available to
