|NECBL All-Star Game Cut Short by Rain|
MONTPELIER, Vt. -- It was a short but productive trip for the North Adams SteepleCats Sunday at the New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game. The contest was rained out in the third inning with the Northern Division All-Stars leading, 1-0. Nicholas Payero had a big hand in keeping the Southern stars down, retiring the side in order in the first as the SteepleCat earned the start in the late-season classic. Hoosac Valley graduate Matt Koperniak went 1-for-2 at the plate with a single in his first at-bat, and North Adams' Scout Knotts had a productive out, driving a deep fly ball to center field to move a runner in the first. |Education, Census, Opioid Task Force Highlights In State Budget For Mark|
DALTON, Mass. — The big news in the state's budget is $5.18 billion in Chapter 70 aid for schools, according to state Rep. Paul Mark. "That is the most in the history of Massachusetts and it is also the biggest increase year over year in this account," the 2nd Berkshire representative said. "I think that is a really positive step toward what we have been working on getting this foundation budget changed." Places like Pittsfield and Greenfield will be seeing massive increases in funding and all districts are seeing somewhat of a bump. |City Woman Wins Hometown Holidays Gift Basket|
Jonathan Secor had some help in pulling the winning ticket.
Congrats to Janet O'Neill of North Adams who won the big Hometown Holidays gift basket on Thursday. O'Neill won some $1,300 worth of gift certificates and merchandise.
The drawing could be entered by spending $50 downtown during the Thursday night Hometown Holiday events. Jonathan Secor of MCLA Gallery 51 said 62 people had entered the contest (including the editor of iBerkshires &mdash amazing how much cat toys cost nowadays).
