 NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Police Department is hosting an officer entrance examination on Saturday morning. Registration is $100 and is open until 5 p.m. on Friday, June 2. The written test will be administered at the police station, 21 Holden St., at 10:15 a.m. and the physical ability assessment at 2 p.m. The department is seeking qualified and motivated men and women for the position of police officer. Town Clerk Marilyn Gomeau takes the role of moderator for the annual town meeting at Clarksburg School on Wednesday. CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Voters at town meeting on Wednesday swiftly passed $5.1 million in spending for the next fiscal year with no discussion. But other articles, including a proposal to open the town's capped landfill to a solar operator, prompted some debate and amendments from the floor. All 24 business articles passed during the nearly two-hour meeting attended by 67 voters.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Drury High School has named Evan-Quin May-Sims Goodermote and Morgan McLean Sarkis as the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the class of 2023. The Drury High graduation takes place Thursday at 6 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Goodermote, child of Brett and Tania Goodermote of North Adams, has taken a challenging course load including Advanced Placement courses and two dual enrollment courses in conjunction with Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Mayor's Fitness Challenge (MFC) is back for the month of June, calling on the community to make a conscientious effort at healthier habits by participating in this community-wide fitness challenge. This will be the 7th Annual MFC for North Adams. Community members of all ages are encouraged to register and participate either as individuals or as part of a team, to wrack up points for the chance to earn prizes at the conclusion of the challenge. Participants will be working to build and track points by eating fruits and vegetables, drinking water, and participating in physical activity. There are also daily challenges for points. City Woman Wins Hometown Holidays Gift Basket |
Jonathan Secor had some help in pulling the winning ticket.
Congrats to Janet O'Neill of North Adams who won the big Hometown Holidays gift basket on Thursday. O'Neill won some $1,300 worth of gift certificates and merchandise.
The drawing could be entered by spending $50 downtown during the Thursday night Hometown Holiday events. Jonathan Secor of MCLA Gallery 51 said 62 people had entered the contest (including the editor of iBerkshires &mdash amazing how much cat toys cost nowadays).
