NORTH ADAMS, Mass.— "The Celestials," adapted from Williamstown author Karen Shepard's novel, shines a light on the history of North Adams and Chinese laborers. The play, by Peter Glazer, debuts at The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA's) Club B10 on June 8 at 7 p.m. According to a press release: "The Celestials" is set in North Adams in the 1870s when 75 young Chinese men and boys were brought from San Francisco to break a strike in a local shoe factory. Praise to members of the North Adams Police Department: Interim Chief Mark Bailey, Detective Sgt. Bran Vivori, Detective Josh Zustra, Officers Taylor Kline and Khalil Paul will be participating in Boston's Run To Remember (on May 28) honoring Officer George Angeli, who lost his life while on duty in North Adams. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The School Committee on Tuesday approved a $20 million budget for fiscal 2024. The spending plan is level-serviced and level-funded in terms of the city's contribution. The committee was presented with the proposed $20,054,352 budget in early May. "We have received an acknowledgement with Student Opportunity Act funds through Chapter 70 state aid which is allowing us to maintain a level-service budget, an overall budget for FY24," said Superintendent Barbara Malkas.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Calling all Drury band alumni, it's time to toot your horn, bang your drum, strum your guitar. The Drury Alumni Concert will be held this weekend coinciding with the band's centennial. "It's really great experience for students to play with alumni," Band Director Chris Caproni said. "They see the continuity of it. So many of these people are lifelong musicians or even if they're not lifelong musicians, music is still part of most of their lives."
