Wahconah Boys Lacrosse Made History in 2022
By Stephen Dravis, iBerkshires.com Sports
05:39AM / Monday, December 26, 2022
It was a year filled with the usual complement of team and individual glory, but one Berkshire County squad went where none of its peers have gone before: to the top of the heap in high school lacrosse.   That was enough of a milestone to give the Wahconah boys lax team the nod as the story of the year in Berkshire County athletics.   It was an accomplishment several years in the making as Wahconah worked its way through the post-season — a one-goal loss in the Central/Western Mass quarterfinals in 2019, a Central/Western Mass title in 2021, the next year the tournament was held.   But in the 10th year of the program's existence – just a decade after the

By Stephen Dravis, iBerkshires Staff
05:02AM / Friday, December 23, 2022
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Brien Center has been helping Berkshire County residents for more than a century.   These days, the mental health center wants those residents to respond to a "help wanted" sign.   "I would say, probably No. 1 goes back to being short staffed," the Brien Center's Rebecca Phelps-Smith said Monday when asked what the non-profit needs from the community. "I would ask for help in spreading the word that we aren't just hiring clinical staff. We have a lot of peer positions open. We have multiple positions open needing bachelor's degrees and master's degrees but we also have [jobs requiring] high school diplomas

Snow, Freezing Rain, Plummeting Temps for Christmas Weekend
04:43PM / Thursday, December 22, 2022
You don't have to dream. Christmas this year is expect to be white — as well as icy.   The National Weather Service in Albany, N.Y., has issued a winter weather advisory until 5 a.m. Friday, particularly for Pittsfield and North County, Southern Vermont and eastern New York.    Snow will start falling this afternoon and early evening before turning to rain overnight. Isolated pockets of freezing rain are possible.    The snow, sleet and windy conditions are expected create slippery roads and reduced visibility across the county. Strong winds beginning this evening could cause tree damage overnight.    A flood watch is also in effect and minor

The club gave a sled to every child at the elementary school.  FLORIDA, Mass. — This past weekend's snowstorm was the perfect accompaniment to the Florida Mountain Snowmobile club's gift to local schoolchildren: sleds.    Some 90 to be exact.    The snowmobile club handed out a sled or saucer to every child at Gabriel Abbott Memorial School on Thursday from preschool to Grade 8.    "I used to go to school here, I grew up here, and I remember the snowmobile club, when I was a kid ,used to do pumpkins," Therrien said. "They would donate them to the school and all the kids would carve them. And this year, we couldn't get

Submitted by Edward Jones,
08:03AM / Tuesday, December 20, 2022
As the year winds down, your thoughts might drift to the future. And, as part of that future, you may be thinking of where your financial assets will end up. You've worked hard to accumulate them, and you'll certainly need some of them to support your retirement, but what about the rest? What's the best way to pass them on to your loved ones?   There's no single path for everyone to follow. But you might consider establishing a trust, which offers some key benefits. For example, your estate can avoid the time-consuming, and highly public, process of probate.
