 BENNINGTON, Vt. — Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC), part of Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) will host an expanded childbirth education class online starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 22. Parents-to-be are invited to register for the 4-week series at svhealthcare.org/Classes-Events. Each class is live, virtual, and interactive. The new format allows families to get a thorough introduction to the birthing experience from the comfort of their own homes. With the COVID-19 pandemic still posing challenges to holding large gatherings, Tanglewood — the annual host of BCC's commencement ceremony — has made the difficult decision to not host certain gatherings at this time that may create a safety risk, including graduation ceremonies.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts is dealing with the fallout of a COVID-19 outbreak in the Flagg Townhouse apartments. On Tuesday, MCLA's vice president for strategic initiatives informed the campus community that the residence halls had been the source of eight positive COVID-19 tests over the last 10 days. On Wednesday, the school moved to a "temporary targeted lockdown" of the Flagg townhouse, ordering its 242 residents to stay in place.  BOSTON — The Berkshire Regional Transit Authority (BRTA) will receive $488,880 from MassDOT to continue the Evening Service Pilot program. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced that $3.5 million in grants have been awarded to Regional Transit Authorities (RTAs) across the Commonwealth that will be used to implement best practices and innovative services to benefit customers.  BENNINGTON, Vt. — The Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, which has received emergency use authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, has been administered to more than 1,200 educators and school staff, largely from the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union (SVSU), at Southwestern Vermont Health Care's (SVHC) COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics the last two Saturdays.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A single line added to the city ordinances seems to have solved the debate over fire hydrant responsibility. City Councilor Lisa Blackmer offered language that added the line "The construction, alteration, repair and care of public fire hydrants" to the list of duties and responsibilities of the commissioner of public services. City Woman Wins Hometown Holidays Gift Basket |
Jonathan Secor had some help in pulling the winning ticket.
Congrats to Janet O'Neill of North Adams who won the big Hometown Holidays gift basket on Thursday. O'Neill won some $1,300 worth of gift certificates and merchandise.
The drawing could be entered by spending $50 downtown during the Thursday night Hometown Holiday events. Jonathan Secor of MCLA Gallery 51 said 62 people had entered the contest (including the editor of iBerkshires &mdash amazing how much cat toys cost nowadays).
