Few things make a parent feel more helpless than when their child has a fever. The good news is most fevers are harmless. In fact, they’re a signal that your child’s immune system is working to fight infection. Nonetheless, it can be distressing when your child is unwell. There are so many questions: How high a fever is too high? What medication—if any—should I give them? When should I call a doctor?

Meng's Pan Asian Restaurant in North Adams Changes Hands

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Meng's Pan Asian Restaurant has changed hands but there is so far no plans to change the name or significantly alter menu.    The Wangs have been a mainstay in the Berkshire Plaza on Main Street for 21 years, first as the China Buffet and then as Meng's since 2017.    Owners Meng Wu "Jason" Wang and Yaling "Joy" Wang put the business up for sale recently and closed a deal with a couple from New York on Jan. 7.    Jason Wang was classically trained as a chef in China. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is being celebrated Monday, Jan. 15. It is a federal holiday to commemorate the birthday of the civil rights activist born Jan. 15, 1929. It is observed on the third Monday in January.

Drury High School to Host End-of-Semester Showcase

Clarksburg Has Finance Committee in Place After 2 Years

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The town finally has a Finance Committee in place after nearly two years.    Moderator Ronald Boucher informed the Select Board on Thursday that he had appointed Carla Fosser and Charles "Chuck" Lewitt for terms ending on Jan. 11 in 2025 and 2026, respectively.   "They play a very, very important role here in the town," said Boucher, whose position is authorized to appoint the three-person committee. "I understand the Select Board can oversee [the finances] but really those guys are the checks and balances to make sure we're set up correctly and moving forward."   He expected to have a third person soon to fill

Gittens' 31 Lead MCLA in Narrow Road Win

North Adams Council OKs Reappointments

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council on Tuesday confirmed a number of reappointments to commissions and boards and reviewed Rules of Order for the new term.   This was the first regular meeting of the newly sworn in council and its President Bryan Sapienza. However, Tuesday night's sleet and snow kept some councilors home but enough for a quorum for the half-hour meeting. Man Pleads Guilty to North Adams Home Invasion, Assualt

High Winds, Flooding Expected in Berkshire County

There is a winter weather advisory in effect from 3 pm on Tuesday, Jan. 9 to midnight in Northern Berkshire County.   Expect 2 to 5 inches of wet snow and a light glaze of ice. Snow will start falling mid to late afternoon changing into a wintery mix. Precipitation will turn into rain by midnight.   There is also a flood watch in place from 7 pm Tuesday to 1 pm Wednesday, Jan 10.  Temperatures on Tuesday will top out in the high 30s, but temperatures will warm overnight.  Melting snow and rain is expected to cause flooding.    Also, the National Weather Service has a high wind warning in place from 4 pm Tuesday to 7 am Wednesday.   Expect Southeast winds

Northern Berkshire MLK Jr. Day of Service

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Committee invites the public to the annual Northern Berkshire MLK Jr. Day of Service to celebrate the life of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with this annual day of volunteering. 

Gather Monday, Jan. 15, as the Northern Berkshire community celebrates the life, principles, and ideals of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by participating in a "Day of Service." A celebratory luncheon will follow.

The celebration begins at 8:30 a.m. at MCLA's Church Street Center with coffee and pastries. Volunteer site service will take place from approximately 9:30 a.m. to noon.
