North Adams Superintendent's Award Presented to Evan-Quin Goodermote

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Drury High School senior Evan-Quin May-Sims Goodermote is this year's recipient of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Certificate of Academic Excellence.    The award is presented annually by the superintendent to the highest-ranking Drury senior who has distinguished themselves in the pursuit of academic excellence.    "Evan-Quinn has taken a challenging course load during their time at Drury High School, including Advanced Placement courses and dual enrollment courses in conjunction with Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts," said Superintendent Barbara Malkas at Tuesday's School Committee meeting.

The BArT Theatre Department Presents 'Something's Afoot'

Clarksburg Planners Continue Cannabis Dispensary Hearing

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The Planning Board has approved continued a hearing on a special permit submitted by New England Regional Dispensaries (NERD) to operate a cannabis dispensary on Cross Road. 

 

The board granted the special permit did not have a quorum at its meeting on Wednesday because one member was absent and another abstained.

 

The board will meet Wednesday, Dec. 14, at noon at the Community Center.

 

However, Chad Cellana, the founder of NERD, said if all goes well, he expects to be ready for operation in March.

North Adams Airport Hangar Debris to be Cleaned From Abutting Yards

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The city and airport hangar renovation project general contractor will clean up insulation littering surrounding properties and install preventive measures to contain the debris.   Interim Airport Manager and Administrative Officer Katherine Eade said that airport abutters have contacted the city over insulation littering their properties from a city-owned hangar currently being renovated.    "City employees and contractors have been to the residence to clean up the yard frequently over the past week or two," she said in an email correspondence. Former Moderne Studios Building Sold at Auction

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The former Moderne Studios building at 19 Eagle Street that has been vacant for several years sold at auction for $100,000 on Tuesday.

$100,000 was the lone bid for the property, despite several interested parties showing up for the auction. Prior to the bidding, potential bidders were given a tour of the three-floor, 5300-square-foot building.

Skip Barry of The Barry Group Real Estate, who placed the winning bid, said he is unsure what he plans to do with the property but spoke highly of the building itself and its location on Eagle Street.

REAL ID Credential Won't Be Needed Until 2025

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) is alerting the public the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has extended the REAL ID full enforcement date from May 3, 2023 to May 7, 2025.  

Beginning May 7, 2025, every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need a REAL ID compliant driver's license or identification card, or another TSA-acceptable form of identification, for domestic air travel and to enter certain federal facilities.  TSA publishes a list of its acceptable identification documents on its website:  https://www.tsa.gov/real-id
