"Literacy is critical to the academic achievement of all of our students, and it's a key factor in determining the success of our students," Kimberlee Chappell told the School Committee last week. "That's why literacy and equity are inextricably linked. If you can't read or write then you can't access anything. Vermont Public Hearings on Deer and Moose08:19AM / Saturday, March 18, 2023 | | MONTPELIER, Vt. — The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department and the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Board will hold public hearings on deer and moose management for 2023 on March 20, 23 and 24. The hearings will include results of Vermont's 2022 deer seasons and prospects for deer hunting next fall as well as an opportunity for people to provide their observations and opinions about the current status of the deer herd. The hearings will also include a review of the 2022 moose hunting seasons and an opportunity for the public to provide feedback on the number of moose permits recommended for 2023. Drury, MCLA Included in State Early College Program02:00PM / Thursday, March 16, 2023 | | BOSTON — The Early College Joint Committee under the Healey-Driscoll administration unanimously voted to expand the Massachusetts Early College program, adding nine additional Early College partnerships and increasing the number of participating high schools to nearly 60 high schools across the Commonwealth. With these additional programs, nearly 7,800 Massachusetts students are projected to be enrolled in Early College programs by the upcoming school year. Following the Joint Committee's vote, there are now 48 designated Early College program partnerships across 58 high schools and 27 higher education institutions across the Commonwealth. North Adams Police Chief Under Investigation Staff Reports , 11:02AM / Thursday, March 16, 2023 | | NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Police Chief Jason Wood has been put on paid administrative leave while an internal investigation is conducted. According to the Berkshire Eagle, Wood's leave began March 8, and the investigation, which is being done by the city's legal team, is not criminal in nature. In the interim, Lt. City Woman Wins Hometown Holidays Gift Basket |

Jonathan Secor had some help in pulling the winning ticket.
Congrats to Janet O'Neill of North Adams who won the big Hometown Holidays gift basket on Thursday. O'Neill won some $1,300 worth of gift certificates and merchandise.
The drawing could be entered by spending $50 downtown during the Thursday night Hometown Holiday events. Jonathan Secor of MCLA Gallery 51 said 62 people had entered the contest (including the editor of iBerkshires &mdash amazing how much cat toys cost nowadays).
Secor contacted O'Neill who was excited and surprised at winning. "No, I'm not kidding," Secor assured her
