North Adams Council Hears About Water System Status, Upgrades
By Tammy Daniels, iBerkshires Staff
06:23AM / Saturday, November 01, 2025

Water from the reservoirs is run through the water treatment plant on Pattison Road.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The city has enough water and it's safe to drink.   That was the message from Commissioner of Public Services Timothy Lescarbeau on Tuesday as he updated the City Council on the water system.   The update had been requested by Councilor Andrew Fitch, after hearing concerns from residents about the quality of the water, a perceived lack of information, and the statewide drought.   "I think he does great work. He's also a community member, so he drinks our water he's overseeing," he said of the commissioner.   Lescarbeau

Letter: Macksey Is a Proven Leader
Letter to the Editor,
04:00PM / Friday, October 31, 2025

To the Editor:

I am proud to support the re-election of Mayor Macksey. I have known Mayor Macksey for more than 20 years and I have had the pleasure of working closely with her and seeing firsthand her leadership for North Adams.

Mayor Macksey is special because she truly cares about people. Her values are founded on compassion, and that comes through when you see her supporting local youth sports, rebuilding our senior center, and ensuring that our schools have everything our community can muster. She has remained close to the community as a mayor, but more importantly, as a neighbor, mentor, and friend.

Mayor Macksey does not shy away from big challenges; she confronts them head-on. The

A skeleton creeps out of the ground on Kittredge Road in Pittsfield.

Starting off in Pittsfield, hop on your broom and sail toward McArthur Street to find James Eubanks' haunted house, located at 81 McArthur. All the decorations were homemade — from the menacing bird flying over tombstones to the tall detailed Jack o' Lantern looming over the doorway into the mini haunt.

Letter: Vote to Re-Elect Macksey as Mayor
Letter to the Editor,
01:00PM / Thursday, October 30, 2025

To the Editor:

It's that time when voters will again get to make their choice for mayor. This year Scott Berglund is challenging Mayor Jennifer Macksey.

Other than being a political newcomer and a fairly new resident to the city, little is known about Mr. Berglund. I know he's twice defeated cancer and while I sincerely congratulate him on beating the beast, it is not a credential for overseeing a municipality with a $50-plus million budget.

He says if elected there will be "transparency" in his administration. Ironically, his campaign has been anything but transparent. Not once, even in the mayoral debate, did he cite any qualifications to be mayor. What experience

"They

Letter: If Oleskiewicz & Sapienza Won't Stick Up For Us, Why Should We Vote for Them?
Letter to the Editor,
02:10PM / Tuesday, October 28, 2025

To the Editor:

Elections in a small city can often feel like neighbors coming together to create a government that represents their hopes and dreams for their home community. Early voting has begun, and on Nov. 4, we will find ourselves once again awaiting the results.

Several incumbents and newcomers have shown heart, passion, and willingness to step up, above and beyond, to face the current and future challenges our community is facing. Unfortunately, others have shown a level of apathy or cowardice that is not only holding us back, it is making us less safe.

This past March, North Adams City Council voted on a resolution to be a sanctuary city for trans and gender expansive people.
