Richard Neal has secured $700,000 in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' budget to complete a feasibility study of the Hoosic River flood chutes. The Corps of Engineers is in the midst of a three-year, $3 million study of the aging concrete flood chutes that control the passage of the river through the city. North Adams has ponied up $500,000 as part of its share of the study and another $1.5 million is expected to come from state and federal coffers. We received a total of 3,595 pounds of food and personal care items. We equally want to thank our Letter Carriers who work out of the North Adams Post Office. They again went above and beyond in collecting the donations and bringing them to the collection and sorting site. They are always a pleasure to work with. Town Clerk Marilyn Gomeau said about 22 percent of the town's registered voters, or 273 out of 1,254, cast ballots. Colton Andrews, a union executive, took first place with 137 votes in the three-way race for Select Board; Bryana Malloy garnered 70 votes and Seth Alexander 64. Alexander also lost his challenge to School Committee incumbent Cynthia Brule, 191-78.
