Showers and Storms Give Way to Pleasant Weekend

Expect some showers today Wednesday, Aug. 16 with a blend of sun and clouds this afternoon, reports AccuWeather. Temperatures will top out in the mid-70s.   On Thursday, expect higher humidity with more clouds. Thundershowers are expected in the afternoon.   It will feel cooler Friday, Aug. 18. Expect mostly cloudy skies. Showers and heavy thunderstorms can be expected, reports AccuWeather. There could be hail and damaging winds.   On Saturday, expect partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the low-70s. Bird, Harrigan Lead Teams to Giorgi League Wins

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Hayden Bird and Keiland Cross each had a double-double Monday to lead Giardina and Bressett PC to a 78-65 win over PhoneBros in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League A Division.   Bird scored 26 points and collected 14 rebounds. Cross finished with 21 and 14.   Lucas Shatford also finished in double figures for rebounds with 11 in the win.   PhoneBros was led by Bobby Lopez with 20 points and 10 boards. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Kollin Allard hit nine 3-pointers on his way to a 33-point night on Sunday to lead Northern Berkshire Sports Academy to a 92-77 win over Big Body Beamers in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League.   Brian Dowling and Russell Beauchamp each had a double-double for NBSA. Dowling scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Beauchamp finished with 20 and 15.   For Big Body Beamers, Anthony Pettengill had 25 poitns and seven boards. BAAMS Faculty to Perform at Mingo's

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — On Wednesday, Aug. 16 Berkshires' Academy for Advanced Musical Studies (BAAMS) faculty members will perform a fundraiser at Mingo's Sports Bar & Grill.   The show starts at 6:30 to 8:40 p.m.   The lineup will include saxophonist Ada Rovatti, drummer Tony Lewis, pianist and keyboardist Charles Blenzig, bassist Alex Blake, guitarist Spaceman Patterson, and trumpeter Richard Boulger.   Their full bios can be found on the BAAMS website.   Admission is free and funds raised will support programming at the music academy such as funding scholarships for the BAAMS Summer Jazz Camp.

1Berkshire Awards 52 Facade Improvement Grants

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Using a FY23 Regional Economic Development Projects Grant from the Massachusetts Office of Business Development, 1Berkshire has awarded 52 facade improvement grants through its Best Foot Forward Program.    The Best Foot Forward Program, now in its second pilot year, provided small businesses and organizations with a pedestrian-facing facade, storefront, or presence with grants of up to $1000 to support non-construction improvements to their respective business aesthetic. Improvements ranged from window cleaning to painting, to plantings, lighting, seating, and more. Through the program in FY23, $48,000 was awarded across 11 communities in the Berkshires,

Former North Adams School Finding New Life as Up-Market Housing
