 NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The estimated cost of a new Greylock School to the city has dropped by millions of dollars. Jesse Saylor of TSKP Studio, the project designer, said the Massachusetts School Building Authority had dramatically increased the amount of funding available for projects. Students in the community service learning project held their annual Oh Be Thankful Pie Auction on Tuesday at the American Legion along with a chinese auction of donated gifts from local businesses and individuals and a 50/50 raffle.  Lee High School graduate Elizabeth Brown was named to the all-Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference first team this fall. Brown, a sophomore at MCLA, led the Trailblazers in digs, with 3.27 per set, and was third on the team in kills with 2.29 per set. She played in all 26 of MCLA's matches, starting 25, and had a season-high 18 kills in a five-set loss to Westfield State. Brown was named second-team all-league last fall after her first season at MCLA. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The discharge of a firearm in the wee hours of Thanksgiving landed a man in custody over the holiday. Police say they responded to a "large fight in progress" at about 12:40 a.m. on Thursday at State Street Tavern. Officers were told one of the men involved had firearm and, once they arrived, learned that he had fired off a round into the air during the altercation. He was arrested at the scene. The Detective Unit also responded and seized the suspect's vehicle pending the application of a search warrant. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Nov. 15 Marcus Johnson, age 23 of North Adams, pled guilty to Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Substance, heroin and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class B Substance, cocaine. The Honorable Judge Agostini sentenced Johnson to 3.5 to 4 years on each charge, to be served concurrent. Additionally, there was a forfeiture of $3,530.00. Johnson pled guilty the day his trial was set to begin. In 2019, the North Adams Police Department was investigating the supplying and dealing of drugs coming into the North Adams area. Her extended family got to eat with the fastest woman at the eighth annual Thankful 5K. Windram-Geddes of Glendale, Mass., was the 10th racer overall to cross the finish line at Berkshire Community College among the hundreds of runners and walkers to set off on West Street at 9 a.m. Thursday morning. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Zebra mussel eDNA has been detected at Onota Lake by the Commonwealth's Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). This discovery was made as part of regular monitoring of the lake for these types of invasive species. This detection only impacts boating operations at the lake and has no impact to other recreational uses of the lake. Zebra mussels are invasive freshwater mollusks that present a variety of ecological, recreational, and economic concerns.
