Clarksburg School Gets New Playground Equipment, Awaits Stairlift

The school has an existing playground for the older children.  CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Brand-new playground equipment will welcome children returning to Clarksburg School this fall.    The school received a $64,000 Feigenbaum Foundation grant a couple years ago, but because of supply and shipping delays from the pandemic, the equipment was not delivered until this past winter.   NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Nearly a dozen residents attended Monday's Conservation Commission meeting to express opposition to a forest management plan that will include logging and the use of herbicides near Notch Reservoir.    "The forest that's in there now is a healthy habitat. Berkshire Thunder Stays Unbeaten in BABL

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Aaron Ricci went 4-for-4 with three RBIs Saturday to lead the Berkshire Thunder to victory over Tunnel City Freight as the Thunder stayed unbeaten in the Berkshire Adult Baseball League’s 33-and-over division.   Berkshire improved to 13-0 this summer and completed a two-game season sweep of second-place Tunnel City (9-4) in a game called in the top of the sixth inning due to rain with the Thunder leading, 9-0.   Six of those runs came in that sixth inning in a steady downpour.   After losing his grip on a pitch that sailed far behind the batter, Tunnel City player/manager Mike Cirullo decided to put an end to the contest.   Berkshire,

Police Arrest Suspect in Walmart Armed Robbery

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The suspect in an armed robbery of the local Walmart is facing multiple charges, including for stealing a pickup truck.    The robbery occurred on Friday morning when Walmart employees contacted police around 7 a.m. to report a man had brandished a firearm at them and demanded money.    The suspect got into a red pickup and drove toward Church Street. Officers were quickly in the area and began to pursue the vehicle. The driver stopped the truck at Hillside Cemetery, and fled run on foot. A short foot pursuit ensued, and officers were able to apprehend the suspect quickly. One officer sustained injuries during the arrest but is expected to make

Hoosic River Measurements Taken by Army Corps of Engineers

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A team of surveyors from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was in the city last week to collect hydrology measurements along the north, south and main reaches of the Hoosic River.   The survey is part of the three-year, $3 million feasibility study of the flood control chutes being undertaken in agreement with the city and the Hoosic River Revival.   The concrete panels that line the chutes have been decaying for years and several have already fallen into the river. While the system saved the city from periodic catastrophic floods, the chutes are now seen as unsightly, ecologically destitute, and in dire need repair or restoration.    The Hoosic
