NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – One rough game in the field does not erase the 5-0 weekend that came before. And it certainly won’t wipe out the 18-4 summer that preceded it. But it was a major factor in costing the Greylock Thunder 14U travel softball team the title game of its home tournament. The Thunder committed six errors in a four-inning, 14-0 loss to Greenfield’s Valley Storm Hurricanes in the finale of the second annual Summer Storm tourney. FITCHBURG, Mass. — Nolan Buck proudly served his country in the Marine Corps from 2015 to 2019 as a corporal. Growing up in Springfield, he joined the Marines' Early Entry Program at 16 years of age. "I was the only person in my family to have ever joined the military," he said. "I wanted to join the toughest branch. I was inspired by a close family friend who served in the Marines for 20 years." he recalled. His basic training was done at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, in South Carolina. Suzy Aja Burba, who was called to pastor by First Congregational Church in May, feels at home in both the city and the church. "I'm really thrilled about being in the North Adams community," Burba said. "I just see a passion for caring for each other." Burba was the minister of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Weymouth. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Greylock Thunder dominated, and Dalton picked up a win on Saturday at the second annual Summer Storm Tournament on the Francis Millard Softball Fields. The host Thunder won its three Saturday games by a combined score of 29-6 to improve to 4-0 in the tournament. Dalton, which fell to the Thunder in Friday night’s opener, started Saturday with a 19-7 loss to the Elite Fastpitch squad out of Greene County, N.Y. But Dalton bounced back to earn a 21-3 blowout win over the Rotterdam (N.Y.) Rebels. Patience at the plate was key for Dalton in its tournament win. In the first game, North Adams built a 9-2 lead and held on after the hosts scored four in the fifth and two in the seventh. Carson Dix went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Maddox Cooke was 2-for-4 with three RBIs in the opener. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Each summer, a group of master musicians assembles in North Adams at The Berkshires' Academy for Advanced Musical Studies (BAAMS) to offer the region's youth ages 12 to 18 a full week of learning. This year, Berkshire County musicians ages 12-18 will have the chance to study and play with some of the world’s finest musicians, including NBC's "Saturday Night Live" Band saxophonist and Juilliard faculty member, Ron Blake, guitar master Rodney Jones, along with two master drummer percussionists, Mino Cinelu and Kenwood Dennard. North Berkshire Community Dance will hold its monthly contra dance with calling by Fern Bradley, and live music by local musicians. All are welcome.
