Veterans Day Ceremonies and Holiday Hours

An image of the 353rd Infantry in France taken two minutes before the armistice ending World War I went into effect.

Veterans Day falls on Monday, Nov. 11, and will be observed as a state and federal holiday.

The federal holiday is to commemorate the service of the nation's military veterans in ensuring peace.

It was first known as Armistice Day to mark the end of World War I at the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. In recognition of the efforts of World War II veterans, President Eisenhower in 1954 signed legislation creating Veterans Day with the goal of honoring all American veterans.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — North Adams Public Schools has PreK openings in both half-day and full-day classrooms for the 2024-2025 school year.   PreK children must be 3 or 4 years of age to enroll and be residents of North Adams. Soldier On 5K Sunday in Pittsfield

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Soldier On and the Berkshire Running Foundation will host the inaugural Soldier On 5K Walk/Run Sunday, Nov. 10 at the First Street Common in Pittsfield at 9 a.m.   This event will help support the mission at Soldier On. North Adams Christmas Trees Installed for 2024

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The two downtown Christmas trees were delivered and set up Monday, kicking off the holiday season in the city.   "It will take me from now until the tree lighting to decorate it," Wire and Alarm Inspector Mitchell Meranti said.   Meranti did not know the exact size of the two trees but noted the tree closest to the monument was difficult to size.   "This is probably the most challenging one that I have done," he said. Shirley Manuel tells how Louison House helped her find and furnish an apartment after unexpectedly finding herself homeless. Mount Greylock Roads to Close For Maintenance

ADAMS, Mass. — Beginning on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, and continuing through Friday, Nov. 29, 2024, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will close Notch, Summit and Rockwell Roads at Mount Greylock State Reservation to all vehicular, bike and pedestrian traffic to accommodate hazard tree removal work.    Rockwell Road from the Visitor Center to Jones Nose parking area will remain open for visitor access, weather permitting.
