CLARKSBURG, Mass. — The Select Board has agreed to join a collaborative effort for drug prevention and harm reduction. The new coalition will hire a North County community coordinator who will be headquartered on the North Adams Regional Hospital campus and who oversee allocations for harm reduction, education and prevention efforts. Berkshire Health Systems has also committed about $120,000 over the next five years. Clarksburg, one of the first communities to sign on to the opioid lawsuit filed by a consortium of states several years ago, has so far received payouts of $23,594.78.  Mount Greylock Regional School alumna Kate Swann and the Williams College women's cross country team are in Terre Haute, Ind., Saturday morning to compete at the NCAA Division III Championship. Williams crushed the field at the 24-team regional championship in New London, Conn., to qualify for the national championship. On Nov. 16 at the Mideast Regional, Williams finished with 59 points, well ahead of runner-up Rensselaer Polytechnic, which collected 110 points. Swann, a junior, was the second Williams runner across the finish line, finishing 10th overall with a time of 21 minutes, 36 seconds on the 6-kilometer course. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City of North Adams is warning residents about scammers exploiting a city-run lead pipe survey project. As mentioned in a letter sent to city residents, the city is undergoing a lead pipe survey. Since then, some residents have been contacted by scammers claiming to be part of the survey and looking for financial information. Officials emphasized that the survey is free, and the city is not making phone calls to residents at this time. Residents are urged not to share financial details over the phone. CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Clarksburg School could be in line for more grants but next year's budget is expected to be tight. "I think two potential big impacts for the FY26 budget are the lack of school choice, we're going to have more clarification on that number as soon as we can ... and then also the fact that we talked about before, the Student Opportunity Act," said Superintendent John Franzoni. "That grant was in FY24 and was only a two-year commitment." This last year of the SOA grant is $136,000, which the school will not have going into fiscal 2026.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — As the Greylock School project moves into Module 6 — design development — there's a nagging question related to the geothermal system. There's been concern as to whether the system will work at the site and now a second concern is if it will be funded. The first question is so far partially answered based on investigative drilling at the closed school over the last week, said Jesse Saylor of TSKP Studio.
