Rose Leads SteepleCats to Road Win

LACONIA, N.H. -- Cedric Rose went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs Saturday to lead the North Adams SteepleCats to a 7-5 win over Winnipesaukee.   Tommy DiTullio had three hits in a 10-hit attack for North Adams.   Randy Reyes gave up one earned run in five innings to earn the win on the mound. Gerry Peacock shut down the Muskrats for three innings to pick up a save.   The SteepleCats (6-20) visit the Valley Blue Sox on Monday.

Mainers Rally Past SteepleCats

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Sanford Mainers scored five times in the top of the seventh to erase a three-run deficit and takea  6-4 win over the North Adams SteepleCats at Joe Wolfe Field on Friday night.   David Bermudez went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Sanford.   Cedric Rose went 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs for the SteepleCats.   North Adams (5-20) goes to New Hampshire to play Winnipesaukee on Saturday.

Berkshire County is having an array of events this warm cloudy weekend including movie nights, baseball games, concerts, and more.   Williamstown Theatre Festival    The annual Williamstown Theatre Festival kicks off this weekend and will run until Aug. 14 featuring musical events, plays, and readings by award-winning directors and performers.    The festival commenced July 5 with the comedy thriller "Man Of God" on the Nikos Stage that runs through July 22.    Every Friday at 3 p.m., the festival will host a new reading series program in an effort to highlight the development and discovery of new work. North Adams Woman Celebrates 100th Birthday in City Hall

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — After a police escort to City Hall, Orella Loretta Robare celebrated a century in the corner office with a proclamation from Mayor Jennifer Macksey.   "It is incredible," Robare said Wednesday during the small gathering. "I am meeting so many people here today. It is wonderful."    Robare, who was born July 6, 1922, walked through city hall with a handful of police officers. City employees gave their best wishes as she passed by making her way to the elevator.   Macksey first joked and asked if Robare was in trouble, surrounded by so many officers.   "Are you in trouble with the city because there are a lot of

Sharks Rally Past SteepleCats in 11 Innings

OAK BLUFFS, Mass. -- Henry Wallen hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the 11th to give Martha's Vineyard a 6-5, comeback win over the North Adams SteepleCats on Wednesday night.   The Cats led, 2-1 in the fourth and 3-1 in the seventh before the Sharks (13-10) came back for the win.   Taconic graduate Cedric Rose had a pinch-hit double for an RBI for North Adams.   The Steeple Cats (5-19) host Sanford, Maine, on Friday.

Clarksburg Trying Out Pickleball

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — After a lengthy discussion over pickleball last week, the Select Board voted to allow temporary tape lines for the game to be taped on the basketball court.   Newly elected board member Robert Norcross has been advocating to use part of the basketball court for pickleball for the past year. Norcross, also a member of the Council on Aging, said the sport was popular and could help attract more members.    Last year, he had wanted to paint lines on the court at Town Field but the Select Board balked at the idea. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Two requests postponed at last week's License Commission meeting were approved on Tuesday during a heated session.    The discussions over a permit and a license condition were at times more a shouting match with an argumentative Commissioner Peter Breen.   Peter Oleskiewicz had requested a one-day license for Desperados to sell margaritas at the popular Eagle Street Beach Party and Fiesta, which he's been doing since 2009. To the Editor:

I submit my letter today as a commercial pilot and avid tourist of the Greater Berkshire region. In relative terms, and to be blunt, the current state of North Adams airport is in shambles. As a commercial pilot who often brings customers to the North Adams region by way of Harriman & West North Adam Airport, I am often left dumbfounded by the gross mismanagement of even the most basic of services my clients and fellow commercial pilots expect of an airport.

The airport is unattended, notice to air missions are not issued in a timely or safe manner, and other basic services typically provided by a fixed based operator (FBO) are completely absent: food, restrooms, and

BAAMS Grand Opening to Feature Allman Brothers Band Drummer
