North Adams Taxi Could Lose License

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. on whether to pull OTT Taxi's operating license.   The taxi service was put on probation back in February for violations including unlicensed and underage drivers and unmarked cars being used to pick up fares.   Councilors at the time had little sympathy for owner John Lord's claims that he didn't know or understand the city's ordinance regulating taxi services.   But they did not wish disrupt the livelihoods of his drivers and the customers who needed the company's services and so issued a "stern warning" and 30 days

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. — David Mendoza served his country in the Air National Guard from 1985 to 2014, retiring as a major.   He grew up in Hampden and graduated from what was then North Adams State College. Clarksburg Residents Killed in Fatal Pedestrian Accident

NEW LEBANON, N.Y. — Two Clarksburg, Mass., residents were struck and killed while crossing US Highway 20 on Saturday night.    The victims were identified Sunday morning as Gary J. Sheldon, age 74, and Patricia Peck Platt, age 77, both of Clarksburg.   A press release from New York State Police say the two were in the crosswalk near New Lebanon Valley Speedway when they were struck by a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek operated by Erica C. Florin, age 36, of Lee, Mass.   Florin was eastbound on US Highway 20, according to troopers, who were called to the scene at about 8:21 p.m.   Troopers and responding emergency medical service personnel attempted life-saving

Lever, MFN Launches 2023 Berkshire Sustainability Challenge

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Lever and the Massachusetts Founders Network (MFN) are seeking clean energy startups to apply for the 2023 Berkshire Sustainability Challenge, supported by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC).    The winning company will be awarded a $40,000 innovation grant. James Kalmuk Joins Dartmouth Cancer Center

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Dr. James Kalmuk, medical oncologist, has joined the Dartmouth Cancer Center at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC).   Kalmuk holds a masters in interdisciplinary science from Roswell Park Cancer Institute and attended medical school at SUNY Update Medical University in Syracuse, NY.
