MONTPELIER, Vt. -- The Vermont Mountaineers Thursday overcame a two-run deficit to earn a 6-4 win and hand the North Adams SteepleCats their 13th straight loss.   Mount Greylock graduate Derek Paris hit his first home run of the summer for the Cats, and Monument Mountain alum Jayder Raifstanger went 1-for-3 with an RBI.   North Adams (12-26) is home at Joe Wolfe on Friday to face Danbury, Conn.

Veterans Coffee and Conversation

McCann To Perform School Record Maintenance

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — In accordance with state regulations, all temporary cumulative school and health records, except permanent grade records, for students who graduated from or left McCann Technical School during the 2017-2019 school year will be destroyed on August 13.   Students interested in retrieving their records before they are destroyed should contact the McCann Office (413-663-5363, ext. 107) between 7:45 am and 2:30 pm before the destruction date of August 13.

North Adams Disability Commission Gets Funding, Grant Abilities

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council on Tuesday accepted two sections of state law that will allow the Commission on Disabilities to apply for grants and use handicapped-parking fees.    The adoptions were brought forward by City Councilor Ashley Shade in cooperation with Mayor Jennifer Macksey and the commission.    "The section 8J will allow the Disabilities Commission and the city to be eligible for grants and funding through the state to improve disability access and for projects that would affect people with disabilities in our community," said Shade. Time to Hit the Eagle Street Beach

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Historic Eagle Street will be covered with sand on Saturday afternoon for the 24th annual Eagle Street Beach Party.    Founded by artist Eric Rudd in 1999 as an annual community sculpture, the beach party is sponsored by Rudd's Berkshire Art Museum and the city of North Adams.   Some 500,000 pounds of sand donated by Specialty Minerals will be spread curb to curb the entire length of the downtown street. NAPS Summer Program to Host Drury Interns

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — North Adams Public Schools' 21st Century Program and the Drury Workforce Development Program have collaborated to provide internship opportunities for 11 Drury High School students this summer.    These paid internships are for Teaching Assistants working with 210 students in grades K-6 in the 21st Century Summer Program at Greylock Elementary School. MCLA Radiologic Technology Maintains 100% Employment

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) announced that its Radiologic Technology program continues a 100 percent employment rate for graduates over the last five years.    MCLA became the teach-out partner for Southern Vermont College's (SVC) Radiologic Sciences program in 2019, following SVC's closure.   The Radiologic Technology program has doubled in class size over the last year, from five to 10 students, and is expected to welcome 20 students in next year's class. North Adams Council Passes $65M Borrowing Authorization
