BAAMS' Summer Jazz Band Day Camp In Full Swing

Students come together to perform as a group but to have the opportunity to break out into sections specific to their instrument. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — More students are getting into the swing with BAAMS' Summer Jazz Band Day Camp, which returned this week for its sixth session.
Berkshires Academy of Advanced Musical Studies founder and Director Richard Boulger said this year 35 students attended the camp, and although the majority are from Berkshire County, students from the Boston area and New York State were participating.

Air Quality Alert for Western Mass

BOSTON — The state Department of Environmental Protection has issued an air quality alert effective for Friday for Berkshire County.   The alert also covers Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden and Worcester counties.   Smoke from Canadian wildfires will affect the region through Friday night. The region woke up to hazy skies Friday morning that spread over the Northeast and as far south as Washington, D.C.   Air quality is expected to be unhealthy for sensitive groups. Berkshire Harm Reduction Deploys Vending Machine in North Adams

North Adams Planners Gives Thumbs Up to Food Pantry Relocation

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Al Nelson Friendship Center Food Pantry is moving into the former Aubuchon Hardware site on Union Street, tripling its space.   The Planning Board on Monday unanimously approved the Northern Berkshire Interfaith Action Initiative's application to relocate to the store's warehouse from Eagle Street, where it has operated for 13 years.    Aubuchon closed last fall after 36 years in the city.   The initiative says the food pantry is the largest in North Berkshire and serves an average of 123 households across Adams, Cheshire, Clarksburg, Florida, North Adams and Savoy. Clarksburg School Gets New Playground Equipment, Awaits Stairlift

The school has an existing playground for the older children.  CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Brand-new playground equipment will welcome children returning to Clarksburg School this fall.    The school received a $64,000 Feigenbaum Foundation grant a couple years ago, but because of supply and shipping delays from the pandemic, the equipment was not delivered until this past winter.
