North Adams Taxi Put on Probation
By Tammy Daniels, iBerkshires Staff
04:47AM / Wednesday, February 01, 2023
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council on Tuesday issued a stern warning and 30 days of probation to a local taxi company.    The vote came after nearly an hour of debate over suspending the license of OTT taxi.    "Again, I will reiterate, if you're back here again, it will be my recommendation, and I think my councilors will probably follow along at that point, because they'll feel like they've been slapped in the face," said President Lisa Blackmer. "So it won't be a three- or five-day suspension. It will be a 20 or 30 day."   OTT, or On Time Taxi, was before the council last week over complaints of unlicensed and underage

Can you reduce the Medicare surcharge?
Submitted by Edward Jones,
03:47PM / Tuesday, January 31, 2023
Before you turn 65, you'll want to become familiar with Medicare's rules and features. And if you're a high earner, you'll want to be especially aware of the Medicare premium surcharge — because, over time, it can add up to some significant dollars.   The premium surcharge — known as the income related monthly adjustment amount, or IRMAA — is assessed on premiums for Medicare Parts B and D, and generally is based on an individual's modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) of two years ago. So, the IRMAA for 2023 would be based on one's MAGI from 2021.   For someone who's married and files taxes jointly, and whose MAGI for 2021 was

"Great news for us that we were awarded [this]," Brosnan said. "Actually, we were the only vocational school that was awarded a grant for expanding, so we're really thrilled about that."

Berkshire Health Group Sets Minimal Increase for Fiscal 2024
By Stephen Dravis, iBerkshires Staff
04:24PM / Monday, January 30, 2023
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — More than 30 municipal entities that are members of Berkshire Health Group will see health insurance rates rise by 1 percent in fiscal year 2024.   But the impact for many could be closer to a 9 percent hike depending on how they budgeted for health insurance costs in FY23.   The board of the joint purchasing group Monday morning approved the 1 percent hike for the year that begins on July 1. But, unlike last year, there was no vote on whether to offer members a one-month "premium holiday" in the coming fiscal year.   Last January, the board voted an 8 percent increase over FY22 but, at the same time, approved a one-month holiday —

Williamstown Resident Nominated for Grammy
By Sabrina Damms, iBerkshires Staff
07:25AM / Sunday, January 29, 2023
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — One week from Sunday, Matt Cusson will be walking the red carpet and waiting in the audience to hear if his name called at the 65th Grammy Awards.    The Pittsfield native is nominated in the "Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella" for his work on the Bee Gees' "How Deep Is Your Love" performed by Dallas-based a cappella group Kings Return.   Cusson said recently that his nomination feels surreal and he's been in awe thinking about getting the same gilded gramaphone as A-list celebrities like Beyonce, who's won 28 Grammys and is up for nine this year.    "It still hasn't hit me,
