 NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Police Department expects to be moving into its temporary quarters next month. Mayor Jennifer Macksey told the City Council on Tuesday that the renovations at the former juvenile are "about 95 percent complete" and that the furniture will be arriving this week. "Our hope is to have all the communications and everything run by March 1, but I will say that's a soft date," she said. "We're doing a little bit of a dance with Verizon right now. ADAMS, Mass. — The police force's new K9, dubbed "Adam," will be with his handler Officer Curtis Crane at Adam's Hometown Market on Friday, Feb. 17, from 11 to noon. Adam is the first K9 fully funded as a direct result of the Hometown Foundation's Police K-9 Awareness Fundraiser. The fundraiser collected in-store donations at the register in all 18 Adams Hometown Market locations to collectively fundraise for the Adams K-9 Fund, which resulted in the purchase of K9 Adam.  ADAMS, Mass. — The town has chosen a 20-year veteran of the police force to take the newly created position of corporal. Joshua Baker was formally confirmed in the post at Wednesday's Select Board meeting, surrounded by his colleagues and with family in the audience. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The city is taking possession of two new cruisers ordered two years ago. The City Council on Tuesday authorized the transfer of $109,582.13 from the Parking Meter Reserve Account to pay for the vehicles. Mayor Jennifer Macksey said the 2020 cruisers will replace two that have more than 100,000 miles on them. One is from 2103 and the other a 2017. "We currently have a balance of roughly $206,000 In the Parking Meter Reserve. Once we take out $109,000, we have a balance of roughly $96,000," the mayor said. "That is a little alarming. ADAMS, Mass. — Authorities say a suspect in a burglary last week on Spring Street died the day after the incident. Mark Bednarz, 56, died on Friday, Feb. 10, while in the hospital, according to the District Attorney's Office, which released the information on Tuesday. Police had confirmed that there unspecified injuries in the daylight breaking and entering at a home on Spring Street. Adams Police and State Police had responded to the home of Thomas Granger, 73, at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9.
