North Adams Council Hires Clerk, OKs Event Parking Fee

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The City Council on Tuesday confirmed the hiring of an assistant city clerk, bringing the clerk's office to its full complement for the first time since June.   Tina-Marie Leonesio is an office manager and facilities coordinator at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.   "Tina is the candidate I feel very strongly in," said City Clerk Joshua Vallieres. "She has experience with Pittsfield Housing, MCLA facilities management, worked with data analysis, project planning and has 30-plus years of office work."   Vallieres has been operating with some part-time help for nearly four months, including through the last week's

Recovery Month Standout Planned in North Adams

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Wear purple and bring a sign to recognize Recovery Month on Tuesday at City Hall.    The stand out begins at 6:30 p.m. on the front lawn at City Hall and the Rev. Florida Man Killed in Saturday Motorcycle Crash

FLORIDA, Mass. — A Florida man was killed in a motorcycle crash Saturday night.    State Police say the 44-year-old man, who was not identified, was operating his 2007 Harley-Davidson in River Road when it crashed at about 8:11.    Troopers from the Cheshire barracks, Florida Fire Department and Northern Berkshire EMS responded and the operator was taken to Berkshire Medical Center's satellite emergency facility in North Adams, where he was pronounced dead.    The driver apparently lost control of the bike; no other vehicle was involved. The crash remains under investigation with assistance from State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction and Crime

NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The MCLA volleyball team Saturday played a tri-match with host Norwich University and the Wentworth Institute of Technology. The Trailblazers took the opener 3-1 over Norwich but were swept by Wentworth 3-0 in the neutral game.   MCLA 3, Norwich 1   MCLA got off to a quick start never trailing in the 1st set, taking it 25-20. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- It took five sets and a couple of match points, but the MCLA volleyball team Wednesday held off a gritty Mount Holyoke squad at the Amsler Campus Center 19-25, 25-21, 25-19, 18-25, 17-15.   Tied at 15 all, the Lyons (1-2) used a 10-4 run to close out the first set and jump out to a 1-0 lead. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Tara Jacobs is poised to become the first Berkshire County representative on the Governor's Council.    The School Committee member stunned the powers that be with an upset win over three attorneys for the Democratic nomination for the 8th District.    "It's amazing ... City Woman Wins Hometown Holidays Gift Basket

Jonathan Secor had some help in pulling the winning ticket. Congrats to Janet O'Neill of North Adams who won the big Hometown Holidays gift basket on Thursday. O'Neill won some $1,300 worth of gift certificates and merchandise.

The drawing could be entered by spending $50 downtown during the Thursday night Hometown Holiday events. Jonathan Secor of MCLA Gallery 51 said 62 people had entered the contest (including the editor of iBerkshires &mdash amazing how much cat toys cost nowadays).
