1Berkshire Awards 52 Facade Improvement Grants

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Using a FY23 Regional Economic Development Projects Grant from the Massachusetts Office of Business Development, 1Berkshire has awarded 52 facade improvement grants through its Best Foot Forward Program.    The Best Foot Forward Program, now in its second pilot year, provided small businesses and organizations with a pedestrian-facing facade, storefront, or presence with grants of up to $1000 to support non-construction improvements to their respective business aesthetic. Improvements ranged from window cleaning to painting, to plantings, lighting, seating, and more. Through the program in FY23, $48,000 was awarded across 11 communities in the Berkshires,

Former North Adams School Finding New Life as Up-Market Housing

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — It's taken nearly three years of construction and renovation to bring the former Johnson School back to its former glory — along with modern touches for contemporary living.

David Moresi, owner of Moresi & Associates, offered a preview of the new Residences at Amity Square ahead of an open house scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 19, from 10 to 4.

Tenants are expected to move in in September once final inspections are done.

Clarksburg Officials Still Hope for Emergency Funds for Road Repairs

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Town officials don't know how they will address the $1.9 million in damaged roads caused by the July 10 rainstorm.   The flooding at Town Hall has been estimated at $51,000 but Town Administrator Carl McKinney told the Select Board on Wednesday that this will be covered by insurance.    A new wood-look vinyl floor has been ordered to replace the carpeting that had been on the ground floor, he said, with input from staff and work on installing new wallboard will start the week after next.    "We're anticipating that within a month we'll be made whole again," McKinney said. Healey Signs $56B State Budget for Fiscal 2024

Central Radio, Saboteurs Earn Giorgi Wins, Percy Scores 56 in Loss

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Hunter Sarkis scored 27 points and pulled down 15 rebounds Tuesday to lead Central Radio to an 80-66 win over Pizza House/Drury High School in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League B Division.   Dave Wellington scored 21 points, and Jude Collins had 17 in the win. BAAMS Faculty to Perform at the Porches Inn

Gymnastics Teacher Cited for Voyeurism in Vermont

Jonathan Girard, owner of J Star Gymnastics in North Adams, pleaded not guilty in Vermont District Court in Barre on Thursday, Aug. 10, to a charge of voyeurism. Girard is accused of filming children in a bathroom at a Waterbury, Vt., gymnastics academy earlier this summer while a visiting coach there between July 10 and 14.    His fiancée on July 15 discovered a video of a young teenage girl using the bathroom on an SD card on his computer and at least 20 other clips, according to the Vermont State Police affidavit. Blackinton Mill Presentation Planned at North Adams Council Meeting
