No Drought Conditions in Berkshire County

BOSTON — The Drought Management Task Force announced that Berkshire County remains at level 0 or normal drought conditions.   This is not the case for the rest of the state.   "Even though the weather is getting colder and wetter, we can't lose sight of the fact that several regions within Massachusetts continue to be impacted by drought conditions," said Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Beth Card. First Nor'easter of the Season Expected to Drop Foot of Snow

There's a Nor'easter headed our way and cancellations and snow emergencies are piling up here at iBerkshires.    The latest weather report is forecasting 6 to 12 inches of snow falling across the region from around 7 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday at 10 a.m. The storm may also bring rain, sleet and strong winds into the region.    Closings and cancellations:  The Adams Free Library will be Friday and Saturday.  Art exhibit reception Friday at the Solomon Wright Public Library in Pownal, Vt., is postponed. North Adams' Apkins Scrapyard to Close Dec. 23

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — After nearly seven decades in operation, George Apkin & Sons scrapyard on State Street will close on Dec. 23. 

 

The 5-acre scrapyard is situated between the railroad tracks to the east and the Hoosic River to the west and accepts a wide variety of scrap materials. William Apkins of George Apkin & Sons said, once closed, they will begin working on cleaning the site and getting it cleared of scrap and other materials.

Northern Berkshires Could See Over a Foot of Snow

The U.S. The National Weather Service has declared a snow emergency in effect from 4 pm Thursday, Dec. 15, to Saturday, Dec. 17, at 10 am, in Northern Berkshire County and in Bennington and Western Windham Counties in Vermont.   The U.S. The National Weather Service predicts heavy snow with an accumulation of up to 12 to 18 inches in the Northern Berkshires and the higher elevations of the Green Mountains.   Travel could be difficult to impossible.   Accuweather only predicts between 4-8 inches of snow falling in the Northern Berkshires, with the bulk of the snowfall happening overnight Thursday and throughout Friday.    Greylock Snow Day concurs that there is the

McCann Receives Skills Capital Grant For HVAC Training Program

North Adams Moving Police Station to Berkshire Plaza

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Police Department will be moving into the old Juvenile Court almost two years after touting it as a potential station replacement.   Mayor Jennifer Macksey informed the City Council on Tuesday night that she had signed an agreement with Scarafoni & Associates, owner of the Berkshire Plaza, to relocate the police force temporarily to the building off Main Street.    "We are hopeful to have the team moved in February or March. North Adams Man Charged for Attempted Sex With Child

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A city man has been arrested by the FBI on charges related to enticing a minor.   James Macko, 23, was arrested Friday and charged with attempted coercion and enticement of a minor and attempting to transfer obscene material to a minor.    According to the U.S. Attorney's Office of Northern District of New York, the criminal complaint alleges that between Nov. 16, 2022, and Dec. 9, 2022, Macko texted another person in Albany, N.Y.    In these messages, Macko expressed interest in engaging in sexual conduct with an 11-year-old child.
