Lazits Leading Lions to First in Ivies

Taconic High School graduate and Columbia University junior Anton Lazits is hitting .253 for the Lions this spring.   Lazits has six home runs, five doubles and 13 RBIs in starting all 22 games for the Lions, who are 10-12 overall and 5-1 in the Ivy League heading into this weekend's games at Dartmouth.   He started the year with two home runs and four RBIs in Columbia's 15-6 loss at Florida on Feb. 23.   Saturday's 11:30 Columbia game against the Big Green is scheduled to be telecast on ESPN-plus.   Staying in the Ivies, Taconic graduate Nick Guachione has appeared in seven games at the University of Pennsylvania. North Adams Schools Set Calendar, Review Budget

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —Schoolchildren will have an extra long holiday vacation next year.    The School Committee approved a calendar that has students on break from the end of the school day Friday, Dec. 20, to Thursday, Jan. 2.   The calendar was one of two options recommended by the teachers union. Superintendent of Schools Barbara Malkas said the only difference was the start date.   The teachers preferred to begin professional development on Monday, Aug. 26, with school starting Thursday, Aug. 29. Drury Performing Arts To Stage 'SpongeBob SquarePants the Musical'

Northern Tier Rail Gets Strong Support at Hearing

Many people are eagerly awaiting the rare total solar eclipse that will take place on April 8, when the moon will completely block the sun. Starting around 2 pm and lasting for about one hour, the daytime skies of northern Vermont and New Hampshire will slowly darken.

Air Quality Analysis Required for State Permits Near Certain Populations

BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll administration moved to address air quality issues in or near environmental justice areas by announcing amendments to state air pollution regulations.

The changes require certain facilities seeking air emissions permits in or near communities with environmental justice populations to conduct a cumulative impact analysis, which evaluates existing local environmental and health conditions in a community. Drury High School Life Skills Class Gets Bleed Training
