 NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — There's a young cat waiting for a family to play with him. iBerkshire's Companion Corner is a weekly series spotlighting an animal in our local shelters that is ready to find a home. Weber is a 10-month-old domestic shorthair. He has been at No Paws Left Behind since November. Volunteer Claire Morin introduced us to him. "He came in with an abundance of cats that were in a crowded situation in the home," she said. "Most of his brothers and sisters are gone, but Weber is still here." A winter weather advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service office in Albany, N.Y., through 7 a.m. on Wednesday for Berkshire County, and eastern Rensselaer County in New York. Patchy snowfall was expected to begin Tuesday morning over the region and through the afternoon, before turning to freezing drizzle in the evening. Christmas falls on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025, and New Year's Day on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026. Christmas is now a state holiday but it wasn't always. The General Court under the control of the Puritans outlawed the holiday in 1659. There was too much eating, drinking, wassailing and other festiveness for the colony's righteous rulers. GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Millions of federal Community Development Block Grant funds are coming to Berkshire County for housing and economic development. On Thursday, Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll said announced $33.5 million in federal CDBG funds, of which $5.45 million will be coming to the county.  Cheryl Coppens put out a call for someone to take over the jewelry business she began last spring — jewelry maker Alexandra Padilla answered the call. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Artful Jeweler has a new owner who is looking to expand its offerings. Cheryl Coppens opened the jewelry store in May, showcasing local artists, offering fine jewelry, and jewelry repair. But a new grandson in Texas, and the difficulties in flying back and forth to see him, had her looking to move closer to him. North Adams Water Safe to Drink| 01:10PM / Thursday, December 18, 2025 | | NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Water Department says all water line breaks have been repaired and water restored to those affected areas. The boil water order has been lifted by the state Department of Environmental Protection. Residents no longer have to boil water or use bottled water for drinking, making ice, food preparation, brushing teeth or washing dishes. A partial lift of the Dec. 15 order was issued on Tuesday; as of Thursday, the requirement is no longer in effect for any areas of the city.
