Healey Pledges Berkshires Investment During Gubernatorial Campaign Swing

Berkshire County is offering a variety of events this rainy weekend from festivals and plays to concerts and movies.    Third Thursday  The Common, Pittsfield Thursday, July 21   July's Third Thursday runs from 5 to 8 p.m. on the Common and will feature performances by Jacob's Pillow On The Road and Berkshire Bateria   Lenco Armored Vehicles will be showcasing three vehicles alongside the city of Pittsfield and County Ambulance as part of a Touch-a-Truck event.    More information here.      'Hymn' Shakespeare & Company, Lenox July 22 until Aug.

Berkshire Humane Society 'Dreams Big' With Service Expansion

A new addition on the lower level will house the Edda Hyde Community Cat Center for treating feral felines. 

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Humane Society has launched a "Forever Family" campaign to expand its space at 214 Barker Road and its service to animals.

The initiative aims to raise $3.5 million for three key priorities: to create an endowment to serve the community, to expand and update the facility, and invest in programs for furry friends.  

So far, about $2.2 million has been raised.

Executive Director John Perreault said the shelter's staff and board a few years ago were looking at how animal welfare was changing and started a conversation

North Adams Traffic Commission Advises Parking Fees After Solid Sound Success

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Traffic Commission is recommending a parking event fee of $40 a day after Solid Sound Weekend in May pulled in some $11,000 for the city.    Chair MaryAnn King said the focus would be on St. Anthony's Municipal Parking Lot and for events at Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art. But the ordinance can't single those out and has to be broader in terms language.    "I don't think you're going to see us do it for other events," she said at Tuesday's commission meeting. "It's unfortunate, I really think in the ordinance it's going to have to say events, but I don't foresee us charging for

MONTPELIER, Vt. – Santino Rosso and Stephen Ditomaso each homered in a 16-hit attack for the Vermont Mountaineers as they beat the North Adams SteepleCats, 12-4, on Tuesday night.   Cedric Rose hit his fifth home run of the summer for the Cats, who got a double and a triple from Hunter Pasqualini.   North Adams (8-27) is back at Joe Wolfe Field on Wednesday against the Valley Blue Sox.

City Woman Wins Hometown Holidays Gift Basket

Jonathan Secor had some help in pulling the winning ticket. Congrats to Janet O'Neill of North Adams who won the big Hometown Holidays gift basket on Thursday. O'Neill won some $1,300 worth of gift certificates and merchandise.

The drawing could be entered by spending $50 downtown during the Thursday night Hometown Holiday events. Jonathan Secor of MCLA Gallery 51 said 62 people had entered the contest (including the editor of iBerkshires &mdash amazing how much cat toys cost nowadays).

Secor contacted O'Neill who  was excited and surprised at winning. "No, I'm not kidding," Secor assured her
